Very
welcoming hosts. Beautiful farm guest house in a lovely location. We ate at the
owners pub just down the road and the food was terrific. Breakfast the next
morning was fantastic. A very enjoyable and relaxing stay. Laterooms.com 1st

Mel and Martin made us feel at home. They have set a new standard in our minds and we were sorry we had leave after 2 nights with them. Everything was superb, couldn't fault it at all. We even enjoyed the attention of the family dog- Basil.

We have just come home after my father's wedding at Church Farm. Wow, what a
day!! The setting was beautiful, the food was fabulous (really really good) and
Mel was so hospitable to us all and especially with our 5 month old son! She
thought of everything and made it so easy for us to enjoy our stay. The rooms
are lovely too! It was like staying with old friends, so relaxed and
welcoming...nothing was too much trouble! Highly Highly recommended.

Hello Mel,
a quick email to say thank you very much for making our stay so pleasant, all 3
of us had a wonderful time. You made us feel very welcome and were so helpful
with our 3 month old baby and all her needs. Being away from home could have
been a difficult experience but you made it so easy by your helpfulness, you
helped take away any potential stress. You have a gorgeous guest house, our
room was perfect, the breakfasts were so tasty, and all the little things like
fresh milk for drinks, a meal in your pub or recommending places to visit added
up to make a really enjoyable time. Thank you!

very well in the future best wishes and kisses for your lovely daughters.
''We have just enjoyed a brilliant weekend at Church Farm B&B. Mel and Martin are great hosts both at the Farm and at the Plough. Mel went out of her way to help our daughter with her lap-top connection to the internet, she also organised taxi transport for us and helped with arrangements when we attended our friends' wedding reception. The food was delicious at both places with good quality ale and the menu lived up to it's ratings from the press. The service re. timing of meals was very accommodating. Bedrooms and en-suite facilities were excellent. Thank you both and of course your lovely family, for making our weekend so easy and enjoyable.

The beds were some of the most comfortable we have found anywhere. The rooms were clean and the en-suite facilities excellent. Unfortunately we did not eat due to illness but we can recommend The Plough for an excellent meal (the Chef was co-owner of the Guest House). Mel dealt with our illness with commendable promptness and arranged for a swift visit to the local Doctor - very kind and considerate. Highly receommended.

Ready, Steady, Cook evenings
Where, Plough Inn, Allscott, Shropshire
How it works: Inspired by the successful TV show, chef Martiin Board started a regular Ready, Steady, Cook evening: diners bring mystery ingredients and have them cooked by the chefs. Before he and his wife, Mel took over, the pub had a reputation for serving bought-in food so it was a way of showing people he could cook with fresh ingredients.
Tables of four spend £15 for a starter, main and pudding - all cooked from scratch in less that 30 minutes. The popular evenings now see six tables of four.
"Everybody seems to like it," says Martin, "People have started to bring more challenging ingredients, but it has also been something of a menu inspiration. We have Duck with Sweet Potato mash and Blackberry sauce on at the moment from one of our nights.
"We're not in London, we're a small Shropshire pub, so we decided to gear it towards what people around here wanted to eat and they keep coming back. We encourage the diners to come into the kitchen and have a look when we're cooking. We haven't missed a deadline yet.
Wellington under the Wrekin Town Guide
About seven minutes drive north-west of Wellington (through Admaston) the Plough is an unexpected gem along the old Shrewsbury road. Usually four real ales available.
The restaurant comprises two intimate rooms, and the food comes highly recommended. (Small car park.)
The Shropshire Star
The dimley-lit nooks and crannies of this old country pub give the feeling that you're in someone's wine cellar. The two restaurant rooms are as intimate as the rest of the place and the food excellent, making this a real unexpected gem on the old Shrewsbury road.
